Habituation: Good or Bad?

Our brain consume 20% of energy. Yet, it has 1: 50 brain to body mass ratio. It does a lot of processing even in a single day. We need more processing or consciousness when we do a task for the first time like Driving a car for the first time requires attention to everything including Roads, traffic, gears, steering, brakes and more. It consumes significantly low energy when we do tasks unconsciously like an experienced driver would not require that much attention to gears, roads. This all “getting used to something” due to repeated exposure to it is called Habituation

Is it a bad thing or a good thing? According to me it’s a mixture of both.

Why is it bad? If we do all of our daily tasks(small or big) with full consciousness, our brain would be exhausted and body will tell our brain to go unconscious. This is one of the reason, people or students studying all night sometimes goes to depression state because they continuously force their brain to focus on tasks for long time that leads to bad consequences

Why is it good? It helps to do our tasks quickly and without any fatigue. It helps to lower down the head ache by paying less attention or doing tasks unconsciously.

Why do we need to lower down habituation a bit? You must have seen people who pay more attention where attention is required, become successful eventually. You need to be conscious to opportunities that come before you. You must learn when to pay attention and when not to. There are very great examples among us: Steve Jobs, He saw our world and people need improvements so he paid more attention towards doing and building something that could help people and the rest is history.
