MSP Waves Radio : Pennsif on Air with Globocop : What happened in 1968

We're coming towards the end of the 60's but still a couple of Sixties Saturdays to come.

I will be on the airwaves of MSP Waves Radio again this Saturday evening co-hosting with @globocop on his Frequency Waves 432Hz show.

The Frequency Waves 432Hz show is currently running a series focusing each week on the events, music and news of one year of the 1960s.

This week the spotlight will be on 1968.

Social change continued apace in Britain in 1968.

Enoch Powell made his infamous 'Rivers of Blood' speech and was promptly sacked from the Shadow Cabinet the following day.

The Commonwealth Immigrants Act and the Race Relations Act were brought into force to attempt to tackle the problems that Enoch Powell had highlighted.

Harold Wilson backed the "I'm Backing Britain" campaign. The Ford sewing machinists at Dagenham went on strikc for equal pay for women.

Britain Rail ran their last steam train. Sheila Thorns from Birmingham gave birth to the first sextuplets in Britain.

The Beatles continued their dominance of the British music scene with Hey Jude and the White Album.

New bands, that would later become household names, began to emerge like Led Zeppelin and Status Quo.

1968 saw premieres for classic films such as 2001 : A Space Odyssey, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Beatles Yellow Submarine.

The first colour TV licences were issued and stalwarts like Dad's Army and Gardeners World made their debut.

To cap off the year for sports fans Manchester United became the first English team to win the European Cup beating Benfica 4-1 after extra time.

My father's home movies were fewer this year but footage from one of my cousin's weddings remains from this year.

To supplement that there is a great compilation of a number of birthdays and Christmases all rolled into one.

And sneaked in there might be, just might be a little peak of me in all my natural beauty in the bath with my water pistol - will this make the final cut....?

These movies are released in their original format without any soundtrack.

I will be narrating the movies live on the show.

If you don't catch the movies on the radio show they will also be available on DTube shortly before the show.

The Frequency Waves 432Hz show will be on MSP Waves Radio on Saturday from 9pm to 12midnight UTC.

You can listen to the show via the MSP Waves Discord channel, through the MSP Waves website or on the MSP Waves Twitch channel.
