In a sense, we have always been subject to control via social conditioning. e.g the legal system, parental discipline & peer pressure. Businesses seek to influence behaviour through selling & marketing. Religions manage their adherents. Governments seek to enforce conformity. Oversimplified, cybernetics is the science & art of control.

Hitherto, the scope of malevolent cybernetics merely was turbo-charged individual & group mind control. Today, cybernetics has laid the theoretical foundation for creating a hive mind of humans, humanoids, transhumans, robots, non-humans & other artificial intelligences.
Wars & battles have been won by getting into the head of the enemy. Why the Turks surrendered Jerusalem is a case in point.

The Turing Test
The Turing test is a test, of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.
Alan Turing's 1951 paper, The Imitation Game provides a template to assess machine intelligence.
The jury is stiil out on whether any machine has passed the Turing Test. It is only a matter of time before it is regarded as normal for machines, having passed the Turing Test, to be as intelligent as humans, if not smarter.
