Frankfurt am Main is the fifth largest city in Germany and the centre of the Rhine-Main metropolitan region, where approximately 5.5 million people live. Unfortunately, only a very small part of the once magnificent old town survived the bomb damage of the Second World War. Frankfurt is one of the few cities in Europe with a distinctive skyline. The density of skyscrapers in the banking district is absolutely unique for a German city and that is why the city is sometimes called " Mainhattan " - of course as an allusion to Manhattan in New York City.
Frankfurt am Main ist die fünftgrößte Stadt Deutschlands und bildet das Zentrum der Metropolregion Rhein-Main, in der ungefähr 5,5 Millionen Menschen leben. Leider überlebte nur ein sehr kleiner Teil der ehemals prunkvollen Altstadt die Bombenschäden des zweiten Weltkrieges. Dafür ist Frankfurt eine der wenigen Städte in Europa, mit einer ausgeprägten Skyline. Die Dichte an Wolkenkratzern im Bankenviertel ist für eine deutsche Stadt absolut einzigartig und deshalb wird die Stadt auch manchmal als „Mainhattan“ bezeichnet - natürlich als Anspielung auf Manhattan in New York City.
