Introducing Mid-Autumn Festival+Pics from Gardens by the Bay - 中秋节+滨海湾公园之中秋 (by @ace108)

Mid-autumn festival is celebrated by Chinese in various parts of the world. It's not a holiday in Singapore but it is in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. This festival is observed on the 15th day of the 8th month
according to the lunar calendar. So, it is not the same date in our modern day Gregorian calendar every year. This can between in September
to early October. For this year (2016), it falls on 15th of September.
It's somewhat a celebration of togetherness because you spend time with your family and close friends. In Singapore, the children's play will involve carrying their lanterns but I heard on a TV programme this is not an activity popular in northern China. Perhaps, it's an evolution of another activity - solving the riddles hung on lantern. Several years ago, I too carry a lantern and walk around the neighbourhood but the lanterns were lighted by candle. When an unfortunate child's lantern caught fire, the naughty part of us will think "better you than me". Now, the lantern a mostly powered by battery which takes the fun out of seeing something go out in flames.
Another big deal about the mid autumn is the moon cake. As with many festival, the mid autumn festival is also much commercialise and the sales of moon cake started about a month ago. I'm more familiar with
moon cake which have filling of lotus paste, yam paste or bean paste. There are so much different flavours that I don't think I can name them all. There is even durian (yes, durian) and I saw on Groupon - star
wars cake (that's the picture of one design at the start of this post)
