Maldives Trip Day 6 - Return of the Sea Turtles

title-image.jpg

The third dive of the day was amazing. There wasn't really much to see, I mean, a few people spotted a thresher shark but it swam off into the deep before anyone could get close enough for a picture but..

I encountered this sea turtle. He was such a cute little fella. Notice the damage on the back of his shell? No idea how that happened but I suspect he had a run in with a large predator that had a good go at chomping the back of his shell.

Anyway, there I am floating along in the current when this sea turtle appears and swims along next to me. Then he turns off in front of me and heads to the surface. I though that was a pretty cool encounter.. BUT THEN..

after a few minutes i look to my side and he came back! He spent a good 5 minutes swimming alongside me. After the dive, the other divers in my group told me he returned ages ago and was swimming right next to me for quite a while before I noticed. Apparently everyone in the group was waving at me and trying to get my attention to tell me the turtle was there..

I was totally oblivious! But never mind, I got some great up close footage of the turtle. Magnificent creature!
