Since my last post 3 weeks ago the steem has really started to rise in Wales.
No whales yet, but with dolphins in the bay, and the first meetup now fixed the future for steemit in Wales is looking rosy.
With a fair spread of steemit members from the north to the south of the country, and with a growing cluster in west Wales, the old market town of Lampeter in Ceredigion has been chosen as the location for the first meetup.
Lampeter is home to a twice monthly People's Market held in the town's old Victoria Hall. The Victoria Hall in the centre of the town has a meeting room we can rent if needed, and a cafe for refreshments which makes it an ideal venue for a meetup.
We will coincide the meetup with the People's Market on Saturday 10 February 2018.
As the Market is frequented by the alternative minded folk of the area it might be fertile ground for picking up new recruits to steemit.
The manager of the Hall has offered free space to put up a display about steemit if we want to.
The hall has good wifi so if we can find a suitable laptop or two there is the possibility of running some sort of 'Get to Know Steemit' drop-in session as well.
Does anyone think the 'Get to Know Steemit' drop-in session would be worth doing?
The market runs from 10am - 1pm. To give those travelling further time to get there would an 11am start for the meetup be suitable?
If we do decide on the drop-in session, that could be run from 10am - 11am. Then anyone interested could join in the meetup as well?
There is a separate meeting room upstairs that we can use for the meetup. Unfortunately there is currently no lift to the upstairs room so if there is anyone coming to the meetup that has trouble with stairs we can just meet in the cafe downstairs.
If we do go for the meeting room upstairs there is a hire charge of £10 per hour, but assuming steem stays bouyant then we should be able to cover the hire cost from post rewards.
So far there are about 10 steemians interested in coming along to the meetup...
@pennsif, @stevejhuggett, @guided, @nicholas.leslie, @mivstar, @pumpkinsandcats, @artystuff, @growthtools, @theadmiral0 and possibly @jen0revision.
Plus two new people I have just signed up who are waiting for their accounts to be approved.
Now I have had my first success at recruiting people to steemit I am keen to get out and tell people about it.
There are only 16 active steemians in Wales at present. I wonder if we could set ourselves the ambitious target of a 100% increase - doubling our numbers - by the meetup? Anyone up for the challenge?
@stephenkendal and @starkerz of the #promo-steem / #promo-uk team have been very supportive in getting steemit moving in Wales.
Stephen has kindly provided a list of all the Wales related users on steemit. Most of these don't appear active at the moment. I am hoping news of a meetup in Wales might revive there interest in steemit.

If you are based in Wales do please drop by the SteemWales Discord server :
Even if you are not interested in a 'real-life' meetup it would still be good to connect.
