BENSON'S FOLLY: episode 5

It was getting dark and of course time to return home. Before leaving the motor park, Johnson, as was is usual habit, went to corner where nobody could see him to count his money. Benson was also there with him.

He pulled out all his money from his pocket and began to count, he advised Benson to do same thing. When he started, Benson could not believe he made such sales. While Johnson was happily counting with smile on his face, Benson was lost in thought. He was confused and wondering about the magic his friend was using to make his sales.

At that point, Benson realized that it was wrong for him to have spent the larger part of what could have been his profit in buying goodies. He was ashamed of himself and was shy to explain to his friend the truth about how he mismanaged his profit.

Johnson read him and understood what was going on in his mind. He then asked, "how much profit did you make today?" Benson was reluctant to answer his friend because he knew what his response would be.

Johnson laughed and said, "why were you buying all sorts of things today? Honestly it was wrong of you to have spent so lavishly. I was watching you but I decided to allow you have your way. I'd always told you that except you learn to properly manage your spending and become very prudent, it will be hard to record great achievements even if you make money in millions. Cultivate the habit of making savings now so that in the future, it will not become a headache for you. Sincerely, you need to work hard on yourself and drop all bad habits that can hinder you from making headway in life. It is better you started cultivating those habits now."

At that point, Benson looked sober. He knew that Johnson will always tell him the truth. Johnson further encouraged him to forget the past and face the future hence there was nothing he could do to the change the past.

"Actually, you still have precious opportunities to make corrections. Now, you've realized where you missed it, the next thing is to make efforts to amend your ways and move forward. Do all you can to improve yourself."

While they walked home, Benson paid a little attention to Johnson's advice. He was busy with his thoughts trying to figure out the excuse he would give at home to defend himself in case there was an argument on his low profit.

At home, Johnson happily told his parents about the day's activities. He presented the money to his father and his father told him to keep it in his wooden made bank. His father further praised him for being wise and prudent.

Kingsley, Benson's father, overheard James' discussion with his son and was thrilled. Then, he decided to ask Benson about his sales too. Benson was reluctant to give account to his father. At the end, he was unable to convince his father that he was serious at what he was doing. His father was not happy with him. In fact, he did not hide his feelings. Kingsley later advised him to be of good behavior and be prudent; otherwise, he would stop him from his hawking business.
