Belgian Jupiler League Week 8 Roundup

A weekly recap with all the latest on team news, player form, injuries, betting angles, ...

Antwerp vs Kortrijk 3-0

Antwerp
Very strong 1st half from Antwerp who pushed kv Kortrijk back and took a 2-0 lead before HT. The 2nd half was not as good, but I up my ratings on Antwerp a bit after this match and also see them now as a more overish 1st half home team. The over angle when they get behind or need to score late in matches still counts which will potentially be a big live bet this weekend against Waasland Beveren.
Kortrijk
Kortrijk played a poor 1st half, but played a good 2nd half despite is being underish. My view right now remains unchanged and I still see them as an overall good team that can be backed.

Genk vs Oostende 1-1

Genk
Genk were the better team in the 1st half against a very defensive Oostende and managed to score the deserved 1-0 in the last minutes of the first half. During the 2nd half they again showed that they are unreliable and had a bad period around minute 60' after which the deserved equaliser was scored. I am still keeping my view on Genk that they have the potential to play away any team in the Belgian Jupiler League. The main question right now is how much extra odds should be given for the unreliability to be counted into them.
Oostende
Oostende with new coach custovic brought an excellent betting opportunity which I talked about in my weekly results post. They got punished for this playing style near the end of the first half. The moment they started playing their normal offensive game things went a lot better. It will be interesting to see what approach they will have next match. Main problem with this team is that they miss finishing power and Gano by no means replaces Di Mata in this regard. For me they can be both backed or faded based on their play live. The idea that they now are no longer a playoff 1 candidate might be liberating.

Mechelen vs Stvv 2-0

Mechelen
Solid match from KV Mechelen who took the deserved win. These 3 points came just at the right time and should give them a lot of confidence going forward. I have increased their overall rating and they now are in a spot where they can be backed with some more confidence. New young striker Bandé was a revelation and might brings them more scoring power resulting in more goals overall. As always an excellent mentality from this team thanks to coach Ferreira and a deserved win this time around.

stvv

Stvv seem to be ranked above their true skill level and I'll be looking to opposing on a regression to the mean. an interesting statistic betting wise is that they are by far the lowest in corgers taken with an average of 2.15 each match while getting 7.25 against.

Moeskroen vs Eupen 3-2

Moeskroen
A pretty even match between Moeskroen and Eupen. I see Moeskroen as somewhat similar to Stvv, the odds of them having a bad streak and see them regress to the mean are quite high.
Eupen
Eupen again started their match defensively but opened up eventually. They played an ok match but failed to get any points which is often a sign for bottom side teams. They are on my potential fade and live over list. Most goals tend to fall late in their matches.

Waasland vs Anderlecht 1-2

Waasland
Waasland again were the better team in this match but failed to keep the points home due to plain bad luck. Based on their level of play so far this season they are high on my teams to back list, but I have learned to be careful with teams like this who tend to get unlucky. They are a competitive team and I do expect them to get their fair share of wins during the season as they are capable of beating all the top teams. High odds outright wins in these will have me tempted. I'm lining up for apotential big over bet this weekend in the match against Antwerp.
Anderlecht
They started with a very strange line-up from interim coach Frutos who will most likely be replaced by Vanhaesebroeck by the end of this week. The players do seem to like Frutos and there is talk that they want to give him a worthy goodbye so I expect big effort next match after the dramatic mid-week CL match. They are in a huge confidence crisis right now though and the win was a complete hold-up as they should have been down 3-0 by HT.

AA Gent vs Zulte-Waregem 0-1

AA Gent
The home team seem to be in some real trouble this season as the quality just seems to be not good enough. Their success coach Vanhaesebroeck no longer seemed to believe in a turnaround and forced getting fired most likely to be able to go to Anderlecht where I don't doubt he will make a big difference. They got a goal against early due to an individual mistake and never managed pose any real danger afterwards against a solid defending Zulte-Waregem. They are far from their championship level right now but still have a 'top team reputation'. They will be on my fade list untill proven wrong.
Zulte-Waregem
They dropped a bit in my ratings after some poor defensive showings but this seemed to be due to De Fauw and Derych not being in the team which made a huge difference for them. They are no longer on my blind over list, but I will be looking for these when they are behind or late in the match. Still a solid team.

Charleroi vs Club Brugge 1-2

CharleroI
They were the same story again not playing the most attractive game but getting the points. Not quite so this time as the visitors scored the 1-2 in the last minutes deserved. Charleroi are not the most interesting team betting wise.
Club Brugge
They played a great match and the Leko system is starting to show good signs. They took a lot of wins early in the season with mediocre play and were on my potential fade list because of it. Things are flipped around now after seeing some really good signs.

Standard vs Lokeren 2-1

Standard
It was funny to see how the now former top team and specially their coach Sa Pinto celebrated this last second home win as if they became the new champions. This pretty much shows where this team is at right now in desperation. They rely on Mpoku for goals and I see it as unlikely for them to become a team to back with confidence.
Lokeren
This Lokeren team is nothing special, they should have no problems to stay in the league but that's about where it stoppes. They got a red card early in the 2nd half which eventually lost them the match. Still a team to potentially fade for me.
