A new chapter: A place to call home

Nathan sat in a comfortable chair overlooking a large hard wooden table covered with food.

An official looking servant poured him some water and added to the assortment of food choices with a plate of fine cheese.

He didn’t need to eat on account of Sharee, but the array of food was so inviting, like nothing he had seen before.

To think, just a couple of days ago he was in dirty rags surviving in the forest, now he was the lord of a castle and in a fine new robe....It couldn’t last, he wouldn’t let it last, this wasn't him.

The dinning room was large, but the the room was sparse,  many dusty outlines appeared on the walls where something once hung. In it’s day it must have be a fine keep, but now it was aged, empty and  maintained by just a few.

Assandria walked in with a wide grin on her Face

“Good morning sire, I hope you are feeling better and enjoyed your rest?”.

“Much better thankyou Assandria”

She sat down beside him and the servant brought over another plate and poured some water into a goblet for her.

"When your ready sire we should meet with the other nobles in the war council chambers, you have many official duties waiting".

Nathan spat his water across the desk and nearly chocked.

“Look…I’m not staying, I already told you this!”

“Sire you have no choice, even if you left this place you are our lord now. While your nobles are few we can manage affairs for a time in your absence, but there are matters that require a decision to which only the lord provide".

“Can’t you just challenge me and take the lordship or can’t I just give the title away?”

“There are very few people whom possess magic, especially none as powerful as you. No.. I’m afraid leadership by trial of magic is the only way to become a lord and it's a one way process, you must be defeated in a magic dual to give up leadership”.

Nathan thought for awhile..

“Well I’m the lord so I’m changing the rules….”

Assandria stood up and looked down at him.

“I’m afraid my lord that is one of the few decisions your not able to make”.
