My experiment continues, but is getting close to the end.
I passed 10,000 words for the entire story with this post which would make for a decent size chapter book for elementary students.
I am working on a new book, while also writing this story. This is going to be a chapter book for elementary students, think Goosebumps.I am writing this story without an outline and putting up the story as I finish each part. I am enjoying getting to know these characters and setting. I am also doing this to prove to myself that a story can be written quickly and without an outline.

In part 20 Irving, Alec, and Mr. Williams learn that someone may have been messing with them in the lighthouse.
Part 21--It's a Mystery
“Grandpa, do you think it is someone you know?” Irving asked. He felt bad it was clear that his grandfather was upset about the possibility of someone being in the lighthouse and messing with them.
Mr. Williams leaned forward in his chair. “Let’s check some more of the audio, maybe they will give themselves away.” He scrolled the cursor further along the timeline. “This looks to be about the time we heard the scraping noise on the wall.” He let the audio play. The three of them leaned forward to the speakers The sound of a metal scrapping on the brick came through the speakers.
Mr. Williams rewound the audio, “Is it me or does it sound like there are feet again. Whenever there is a scrap, there seems to be feet moving.”
They listened.
Irving spoke, “It also sounds like sound his breathing hard whenever the scraping sound is heard.”
Alec pointed at him, “I thought I heard that as well.”
“But grandpa, how could have anyone gotten in? I thought the door was locked?” Irving asked.
Mr. Williams leaned back in his chair and took a deep breath, “I thought I locked it. Maybe I didn’t.”
‘Wait a minute, we set the microphone and then we walked up the stairs,” said Irving. “Let’s listen at the beginning again.” He scrolled the timeline back to the beginning. They listened to the three of them walking up the stairs. They leaned in once more toward the speakers. A muffled noise and a squeak happened a few moments after they walked up the stairs.
The three of them jumped out of their chairs.
“That sounds like someone walked into the lighthouse,” said Irving.
“Unfortunately the video camera wouldn’t have seen it. It really only gets about halfway down the stairs. The video camera would have only gotten things that would have been higher up the stairs,” explained Alec.
“But now we have to figure out who was in the lighthouse with us,” said Irving.
“And when did they get out of the lighthouse,” said Alec. “Because we could have seen them at this point since the lights were still on.”
“That’s a good point,” replied Mr. Williams. “It is a mystery.” He leaned back in his chair. “But I think I have a good idea who it maybe.”
