September Challenge
This month @joythewanderer will be the guest judge for the competition, and as always we will be getting help with curating from @boxcarblue.
If you haven't entered already it's time to get writing and digging out some great photos from those family albums!
Culture Vulture
The tag #culturevulture is a place here on Steemit, where you can share something unique about your country with the world. Instead of being a post about travel or tourism this tag is about sharing local experiences.
Inspiration
If your eager to get writing on Steemit and you don't have material this tag might be just the thing to get you going.
Inspiration is all around us. It may be a daily ritual where you live or a local passion that always reminds you of home.
Here I will call out some recent posts that stand out and really capture the spirit and the vision of this tag. There have been so many already this month, this is just a small selection but for more you can check out the #culturevulture tag. Winners of this months prize will be announced at the end of the month, but I have no doubt these posts are in the shortlist.
Festivals
This is a natural place to post about festivals and celebrations from around the world.
@milky describes the Muslim New Year and celebrations in Aceh
Music
We express our culture and heritage through art and music. We love posts about traditional instruments from around the world and what the music means to you.
Culture
Expressions and gestures vary from country to country. It may be a gesture or a certain word but travellers often don't get it or fail to fully appreciate the nuances of language when they travel.
@osm0sis a new steemian has made several great posts and I would definitely recommend checking out her blog. This week she shows a different side to Hong Kong.
This week @rt395 travels to a mountain top just outside Tokyo
- @rt395/travel-tuesdays-7-mt-takao-in-tokyo
This was one of my favourite entries of the week because you get to see a place, not big on a tourist map, which you could visit if your travelling to Tokyo, and after reading you feel like you with were with him on the journey.
Customs
Every country, even region has unique customs. Isn't it so much more fun to stay in local accommodation when you travel. You get to experience local customs instead of the generic 5 Star treatment that some hotels offer.
@anna-mi takes us on a tour of an open air Slavic Museum
Traditions
There have been several great posts about Marriages and weddings. Culture Vulture is a natural place to post about these family celebrations. One of my lasting experiences from travelling was a wedding I was invited to in India, and another in Syria. In my culture weddings are small family affairs. You would never invite a stranger or people you only knew for a short time. Here you can experience an event that you may not get invited to when you are abroad.
@ijoel wrote this week about challenges faced by many cultures all over the world and how they deal with modernisation.
In this post @ejhaasteem, another regular contributor, describes how the Lotus Flower influences Achenese Art.
@abduhawab gives some great detail on part of a tradition for welcoming guests in Achenese Culture.
Food
Food is something that always reminds you of home, and of other countries. There have been so many wonderful entries this month, as always. Here is a selection from the last week.
Not only has @anna-mi given a beautiful description and pictures she has provided a recipe for this Russian Delicacy.
@dilimunanzar has several great entries this week but this one on an Aceh favourite deserved a mention
Other Contributions
Our guest judge this month is a regular contributor so be sure to check out her posts @joythewanderer
Tell us a bit about the ritual and fill in the details about why, how, and the cultural background. Don't forget a few pictures to bring it to life. We prefer posts with some original photography. It's ok to use some stock photos (but reference the source) as long as these photos are not the main focus of the post. We are looking to reward original stories for this challenge.
For more details about the rules and examples of what we are interested in check out this months announcement post Culture Vulture Challenge September Challenge
August Challenge
50 SBD was paid out in the August Challenge. The results can be found at h@eroche/culture-vulture-challenge-august-results/
