A surprise guest.... Booboo's story part 1

It was 02.15 and I had not long been asleep when I heard rattling and whining. Lucius was very restless and pacing in his crate, calling for me. Luna joined his pleas.

I dressed groggily. I was so tired, having gone to bed very late. Outside the wind howled and the rain battered against the roof and the windows. A category "Orange" storm raged with gale-force winds, thunder and lightning and torrential rain.

"What's wrong? What do you want? I only took you out just over a hour ago. "

Lucius was most insistent." I need to go now."
I resignedly put on his lead and went to unlock the front door.

As I pulled my hood tight over my head, Lucius pulled me straight round to the side of my cottage, and over to a bush. He stood stock still and "pointed". Pointing is his way of indicating that he has found something - he stands stock still, tail straight, nose pointing and indicating his find.

I looked at the bush, and there, shivering and shaking like a leaf was a little anxious face. I bent down, and as I did so, a wriggling wet body burst out and practically leapt into my arms covering my face with kisses.

I carried the cold wet bundle back inside and towelled him dry. The little dog had no collar, so no identification, but now was not the time to ponder this. He needed a warm bed for the night at least. Lucius stomped back into his crate while I prepared one of his old travel crates from when he was a pup for "Boo". I put in a thick warm blanket. Boo is a miniature Jack Russell Terrier.

The next morning I fed Boo the same diet I give my two Wolfdogs, raw meat and bones...he happily tucked into his quarter chicken before I took him to my vet to check if he was microchipped. He must belong to someone. He is the sweetest, most lovable little gentleman...he had to be someone's pet. Somebody must be missing him.

After searching the database I was given a contact number. A woman answered and told me the little dog was named Spot, and that he and a little Jack Russell Terrier bitch named Dash were adopted by her Granddaughter from a charity dogs home called Dogs Trust. Unfortunately she could no longer look after them and had passed them on for free to a guy who lives quite near me. She gave me his number.

It was almost two weeks later when I eventually was able to reach Boo's new owner. He agreed to collect him the next day.

After this time my own dogs had accepted Boo into our family. He and Lucius were inseparable; Luna just tolerated him and the antics the boys got up to.

When Boo's owner arrived, he was more interested in my own dogs, particularly in Lucius. He was full of questions and wanted to know could he use him as a stud. Lucius is an F3 Wolf/Czechoslovakian Wolfdog hybrid. Not a chance! Apparently he fancied himself a breeder.

He explained that Boo and the little bitch came as a pair, and he really wanted them for breeding. But Boo is neutered. He took Boo, got back into his car and drove off.

A short while after they had left and the house was quiet (Lucius sulked, and Luna ignored both of us), I felt a little sad. I missed the little guy. Was Boo OK? Something felt wrong.

But our lives were about to change.......
