(PT) Olá, Amigos, esta semana trago-lhes a maravilhosa língua portuguesa de Carlos Paião, um médico que virou cantor e poeta e que partiu, ainda jovem, há umas dezenas de anos. Esta poesia fala de uma palavra que não tem tradução, a SAUDADE.
(ENG) Hi, my friends, this week I'm bringing you the wonderful Portuguese poetry from Carlos Paião, a doctor that became a singer and a poet, and departed, still young, some decades ago. The poem is called SAUDADE, an untranslatable word in Portuguese that means longing (see the meaning below). The translation is mine.

Saudade não tem forma nem cor
Não tem cheiro nem sabor,
Fala-se nela, mas não se vê;
Só pensa nela quem acredita.
Ela é parte da ausência;
Ela é parte do Amor;
Ela tem realidade
Mas quem a tem sente dor,
Uma dor que cresce no coração,
E que nunca vem sozinha...
Acompanha a solidão
Quem a sente nunca esquece,
Nem nunca esquecerá,
O sentimento que não adormece
Por alguém que não está.

Saudade* has no shape or color
Has no smell or flavour,
You speak about it, but you do not see it;
Only those who believe think about it.
It is part of the absence;
It is part of Love;
It has reality
But those who feel it stay in pain,
A pain that grows from the heart,
And that never comes alone...
Accompanies loneliness
Those who feel it never forget,
And will never forget,
The feeling that does not go to sleep
For someone that is not there.
- A Portuguese unique word representing a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves.
