Water is my path
fluid and ever-moving
changeable and deep
Cori MacNaughton
Like most coastal dwellers, I have a deep relationship with water, and find that the main thing I miss about California, and Florida, is the ocean.
Yes, we have our river, but it is in no way the same.
I find it interesting when people tell me that they get anxious upon entering the ocean, because for me it has always been the opposite, especially when I SCUBA dive. The best way I can describe it is as a feeling of being embraced by the sea, and by extension, by the Earth herself. I am at home in the water in a way in which I never have been on land.
This, and my affinity for marine life, was why I chose marine biology as my major course of study in college, why I studied shark attacks and whale strandings for years of my own volition, and why my sister Carol was always mildly amazed that I never returned to California, knowing that I was more at home in the Pacific than anywhere else.
Water is one of the most amazing substances on the planet, and we are truly still in the beginning stages of really understanding its properties.
Water is sacred. Water is life. Water is more than we know.
And I would love to hear your take in the comments.

Melaleuca, a company that has been making natural, eco-friendly
products since the 1980s, that not only work as well as
chemically laden versions from the supermarket,
but are safer, and typically save money overall in addition.
I was introduced to them by a co-worker in 1990, lost track
of them, and was thrilled to find them again about a year
and a half ago. I strongly recommend their products.

All words and images are my own.
The photo of the pier in Tarpon Springs, Florida, which was about an hour north of where we were living in Largo at the time, I took in October 2009.
The photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, I took as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table.
You can see how much that deterred them both.
