Startup Blabber #012: Work Culture

Dear Steemians,

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of the NBA, especially the Houston Rockets, who were so close last year to pulling off a championship. With that said, I was reading an article that really goes to the core of not only championship teams in the NBA, but championship teams in startups!

It was a publically-penned letter from Tony Parker to the San Antonio Spurs. The link is provided, so you should take a look, but I did want to share my key takeaways from this article:

  1. 2nd Chances - No one in the world is perfect. Life is always about providing second chances, and actually creating a work atmosphere that truly embodies this trait. One great thing I learned from TMON was one of their core values: Fail fast. Also, I'm a big believer that you learn faster from your mistakes.

  2. Great Colleague/Mentor System - I think this quote from Tony Parker just about sums it up: "Winning was the most important thing. But what I will always remember, and always be grateful for during those years, is how — even with these priorities — somehow my development was never left behind. The veterans took me under their wing right away. They just always made room for it — and I don’t mean in these huge, obvious, “stop everything and teach the French kid about the meaning of life” kind of ways. Just very subtle things: a quick lesson here, a short conversation there."

  3. Believe in the team - You have to trust your team for the team to trust you. Each member has to trust each other. That way, execution will be nearly flawless and fast.

Thanks, and have a wonderful week!
Chris
