Blogging Tips For Newbies On Steemit

So you wish to become a blogger. One of the first things that you wonder is how to start and what you should keep in mind when you write your posts.

I remember the first time I wrote a blog post - I used Google's free blogging platform about a decade ago. It took me a few days, first to come up with a topic, a couple of days to do some research, and finally at least one day to write a 500-word post! No prizes for guessing that I was hesitant and had to force myself to go out there and publish my post. So, if you wish to become a blogger, just start writing your first post, if you haven't already.

Niche

The is the first thing that you must decide before you start blogging. Think of what you are passionate about and what your interests are. However, keep in mind that you may be interested or passionate about something but there may be no audience for it. A good way to check whether there is any interest in your niche is to check out the various trending tags here and see whether there is any tag related to your niche. If there is none then it may not be worth posting on that topic. Hence make sure that you blog about a topic that is popular on Steemit.

Content is King

The content in your post must be interesting and unique. If you copy and paste from a source on the internet it is not original and is frowned upon. You may do your research using the information available on the web but when you write your blog post it must be hundred percent original.

If you wish to bring posts over from your old blog, make sure that you mention the source in your post and also white list it with @cheetah.

Appearance

I mean how the post looks when it is published. I always put images and animated gifs in my posts so that it looks good to the eye. Images also help break the post up intoi more digestible parts - compare it to a big block of text and decide which is better.

Take the trouble of formatting the post in a markdown editor. I use stackedit.io for some basic formatting before I publish the post.

Consistency

Blogging is a game of consistency. Make it a daily habit and make sure that you post at least one post every day or at least 5 days a week if you remain away from the internet over weekends. You will form a band of loyal followers who will read your posts when you post regularly. Bloggers who post irregularly or once in a while do not receive much traction with their posts because not many read them.

Error Free

Check the posts for grammatical errors or other mistakes by proofreading them and editing them before publishing. You can use a spelling editor available free online or the free version of Grammarly for this purpose.

These tips will help you get started and once you start blogging regularly you will become familiar with what works and what doesn't. Hope you find these tips useful.

Wish everyone a Happy New Year and have a great 2018!!
