5 min Writing Prompt "Cinammon" #freewrite Serial Story Chapter Eight

And now he is following the snake, through the opening in the courtyard wall - a large split in the rough stone through which he was barely able to squeeze himself - and down a dark corridor lined with more incense burners, these ones giving off the smells of clover, and cinnamon with burnt honey.

Cinnamon. That was what I called her. Our daughter…

Sebastian shakes himself out of this reverie and continues to follow the snake. The reptile is slithering up a baseboard along the edge of a staircase, rising higher, up into the towers of the Living Church. As he climbs the stairs he can see that the shadows are giving way to sunlight, and that the air has grown fresher, more full…

It feels good to have a name, Sebastian thinks. A name and some memories now, to help him with his climb.
