5 min Writing Prompt "Switch" #freewrite Serial Story ACT TWO Chapter Nine

switch.jpg

The upper reaches of the Living Church are awash in sunlight that beams in from high narrow windows across the long hallway, drenching the polished stones with a glowing golden hue. Sebastian emerges from the stairs into the hallway and breathes in the full air, sweet from driven winds and sunlight. As he follows the snake to the end of this hall, he gazes at the tapestries that hang between the windows: forest scenes, crashing waves of an ocean, billowing rivers and towering clouds across a twilight sky of deepening ochre…

The snake arrives at a door of glass at the end of the hallway and slips through a socket like hole at the door's base, beneath something that looks like a light switch. Sebastian approaches the door, sensing a pulsing energy emanating from its smooth translucent surface. He cannot see anything beyond this door, only shadows.

Words appear across the door's crystal face.

TO ENTER, SPEAK YOUR NAME .

With a surge of pride he utters his name. "Sebastian."

There is no hesitation from the door.

TRY AGAIN.

Written in five minutes from the writing prompt, "switch" as part of the #freewrite exercise. Image is by me as well. You can view the prompt here. Be sure to check out the other entries; maybe they'll turn you on, maybe off... But I think you'll probably like them. Thanks to @mariannewest for creating and running this literary back and forth.
