Hi dear friends! Today I wil share with you, how I think we can own our emotions, or how not to own them.
Because the @ecotrain question is:
What Does It Mean To Own Your Emotions?
I actually don't know if I can answer this question, because I am not sure such a thing can exist. The connection between our thoughts and feelings is obvious for most of us by now I suppose, that what we think, we immediately feel. Sometimes though, it can be quite difficult to locate one specific thought that cause a feeling. Not because it doesn't exist, but because it is such an old thought that has become a habit and believe and effects our subconscious mind in every action we take.
When we start to understand the connection inside us between our thoughts and emotions, we are aware of which effects our thoughts have on us. We are more likely to re-think some of those thoughts, and consciously choose thoughts that are having a more positive effect on our feelings. The more we start to question our thought (read Byron Katies books!), the happier we get. We start to see in ourselves, that we are not what we think, but the awareness behind it. Who is it, that can be aware of a thought if we were that thought? Think about that a second, and get still.
You can live in a state of constant gratefulness and peace, but in order to be able to get there, you need to understand how your thoughts work, and how your feelings are connected.
We have days where we are very sensitive to our surroundings, and when our feelings are so much stronger than usual. We are like an open portal to the world, which is very spiritual but can be painful when we have a lot of dark thought and emotions that need to come to the surface.
The secret is very simple. If you are facing difficult emotions, life is showing you where you have to put your attention. Don't look in another direction, because you will encounter the same situation and emotion over and over again until you understand it and can relise it. Anger, sadness, disappointment and every negative feeling you carry inside you is locked life energy that only you can relise if you shine with your own awareness on it.
I believe that happiness (a quiet happiness filled with gratitude and joy), is our natural state of living. When we are children, we start to believe in our thoughts, and the thoughts people around us have about us. I think that 100% of the negative thought we have about ourselves, the world and other people, we have adapted from other people. If you have your own child, you know that he or she only see the world as it is, an exciting place to live in with so many loving people who are there to play with you. But you as a parent, say no, no, no, no and no. And that no, is a no to the natural state of being. Do we teach our kids to feel connected with others and the world, or the law of separation? Do we teach our kids that they actually don't need to believe what they think or what someone else thinks about them? No, we don't. Because we have forgotten that we are free and that it can be joyful to live on this earth with our soul sisters and brothers, if we dont belive everything we think and project on others.
When we are connected with our own feelings, thoughts, and emotions, we are more likely to do what we love, nourish our bodies in a way that feels good, stay away from scary movies where they kill each other, we don't need to hide behind makeup.
If you get angry, notice that hurtful feeling you have inside you. You can't get angry, if you don't carry pain inside of you. And same for everyone around you.
Byron Katie says: the worst thing that can happen is a thought. And that is so true! Where is the problem if you don't think that there is a problem? Our thought about something is just a projection, not the truth. Actually, a thought is just a suggestion from our brain, how that situation could be looked at. Who says we need to believe in every suggestion? After a while of questioning your thoughts, you realize, they are not even your own! It is like some kind of bubbles that pops up and then disappear. Perhaps in someone else's mind. How often do you have a unique thought? Not very often, because our thoughts love to repeat themselves and get a habit.
I think it is very interesting to watch small children play and interact. If they get angry, you can be sure, they already carry some kind of pain inside them that causes the anger. Frustration, on the other hand, is more productive and it asks for an immediate change in order to remove whatever is blocking the flow of the game.
This is my answer to this very interesting question. I hope I could inspire some of you to start question your mind! Because that is where our (negative) emotions are born.
Love, Niina
