Titus 3:1-3

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

It is important for the ongoing influence of Christ's message that Christians obey civil laws and authorities and be good citizens and act as respectful neighbors (Matthew 17:24-27; 22: 15-22; Romans 13:1-7).

The only exception is when the government and law conflict with Biblical teaching (Act 5:29). That is, as long as those in authority do not expect Christians to defy God, our show of proper humility, submission, love and kindness can be a powerful testimony of faith in Christ. Christians should actually take the lead in promoting the well-being of their communities and showing active compassion to those in need. In this way, we are being like God, whose kindness leads people to repentance (Romans 2:4; 2Timothy 2:24).
