Who parents our children online?

           Their friends? Their peers?
           The media?
           The internet?
           Or you?

Parents introduce their children to lying on social media, making it easier for their children to be less than truthful to them.

Despite the 13 year minimum age requirement, parents help their 12 year olds create Facebook accounts!

  • If we take the pains to teach our children social graces, like table manners, why do we not make the effort to instill internet values and/or a social media culture?
  • Do our children look up to us to learn about social media?
  • Do we learn about mobile, apps & the internet from our children?
  • Are we aware of the impact of the open internet & social media apps on our children?

While children feel happier about their friendships, when on social media, they feel less happy about their school work, their school, their appearance, their family & their life overall.

When we teach our children table manners, they learn what cutlery is for.

A hot knife can slice through butter.

Or,

A knife could be used as weapon.

We do not educate our children about weaponizing knives.

Or protecting themselves in a knife fight.

Like us, our children are exposed to experts, using cutting-edge media technology, in creating addicts & facilitating binge engagement.

Addiction, Binge Engagement

When anything that you use on the internet is free,
        you are the product.
Your data is the product, even when you pay for a service.
Porn sites, the New York Times & Facebook covet your data. Whether anonymized or not, your data is gold to Google & Bing.
       In the attention economy,
a measure of the value of a user to
an internet business, is the degree to
which a user is addicted to his device,
       service or app.
  • When WhatsApp announces a better user experience, is addiction masquerading as enhancing user experience (UX) embedded in the user interface (UI)?
  • How much time & how many decision points are available to Amazon & Walmart to upsell that shopper?
  • How, why, when & where can Google expose a browser to paid advertising?
  • Is social media the new tobacco?

The smartphone has made teenagers more lonely.

Nomophobia is the fear of losing your mobile.

Social media, addiction & binge by design create a perfect storm for predators to prey on teenage lonely hearts.

  • Are teenagers more addicted to their iPhones than drugs?
  • Are today's teenagers, though less addicted to drugs than previous generations?
  • Does teen depression create the potting soil for Blue Whale?
