MSP Waves Radio : Pennsif on Air with Globocop : What happened in 1966 - the school fete edition

I'm back again on MSP Waves Radio this Saturday co-hosting with @globocop on his Frequency Waves 432Hz show.

The Frequency Waves 432Hz show is currently running a series focusing each week on the events, music and news of one year of the 1960s.

Today's show is all about 1966.

1966 was the year 144 people (including 116 children) were killed by a collapsing coal spoil tip at Aberfan in South Wales

It was year the Pickles the dog found the world cup trophy wrapped in newspaper in a garden in south London.

Four months later England beat West Germany 4-2 in the World Cup final to win the trophy for the first time.

1966 saw Time Magazine first use the phrase "Swinging London". It also saw the arrival of the Action Man action toy and the launch of the first of the UK's Polaris nuclear submarines.

By 1966 my dad's hobby of making home movies was reaching new levels.

All aspects of family life were now being filmed from bath times to beach holidays, and from carnivals to christmas.

One major event of the year was the school fete on 11 June.

From the footage of the event it appears that my mum was one of the organisers of the event. Because of that I was chosen to present bouquets to the wives of the 'celebrity guests' who had come to open the fete.

The fete also had a bowling for a pig competition, a fancy dress contest and a 'who's got the prettiest ankles' parade for the ladies.

These movies are released in their original format without any soundtrack.

I will be narrating the movies live on the show.

Tune in to find out if I was successful in my quest for glory in the fancy dress competition.

I will release the main film on DTube just before the show. In the meantime two shorter films are already on DTube :

The Frequency Waves 432Hz show will be on MSP Waves Radio on Saturday from 9pm to 12midnight UTC.

You can listen to the show via the MSP Waves Discord channel, through the MSP Waves website or on the MSP Waves Twitch channel.
