Our Black and White Hope - Day 82 - Daily Haiku

Our black and white Hope -
Incredible dancing goat!
Every time he's fed.

Cori MacNaughton

I tried posting this last night, but even though I could view and comment without any issues, every time I tried to post, my connection timed out. Again. Sigh.

In any case, Hope is the goat closest to the camera, my little barn buddy.

When he was first born, he was afraid of everything, including me and Marek, although his brother Vortex just wanted to climb on me and spend his life in my lap. And, for the longest time, Hope wouldn't allow me to even approach him without running away, though none of the other goats had any fear of me. He wouldn't even allow me to give him treats.

His fear was compounded when, first his mother died, and then a few weeks later, his uncle Chocolate was carted off by his owners. Then, later that same day, Semafor escaped his tether yet again, and came up to the main house, upon which I took them all back to the barnyard, thinking they were safer there. Until Vortex tried to jump the barn fence, to come after me, and wound up accidentally hanging himself in the process.

That was a truly awful day.

But we all came through it, and thankfully Hope still had Semafor, with whom he had bonded, and who was much nicer to him than Chocolate had been. Gradually Hope figured out that I'm not a threat, nor is Lolo, and while he still doesn't come up to be petted, he does now come to greet me when I come to put them back in their stall and feed them.

And, as soon as I approach the stall, he runs rings around me, over and over and over again, sometimes making it a challenge for me to even get to the stall, much less feed them. Hence his nickname as "The Incredible Dancing Goat," because he gets SO excited at feeding time, that it's pretty hilarious.

All words and images are my own. The photo of Hope and Semafor in their barnyard I took a couple of months ago with my Samsung Note 8 smartphone.

The photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, I took as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table.

You can see how much that deterred them both.
