Roadtrip Through Bali - Between Beaches and Rice Fields

After we had learned how to handle Bali‘s chaotic traffic on our motorbike, we were ready for a roadtrip into the wilder parts of the island, away from the souvenir shops and western cafes. As soon as we made our way out of the narrow streets of Ubud, the scenery became greener and the houses along the street gave view to some great mountain panoramas to gaze at.

Colorful corals, fish and plastic bags - Blue Lagoon

At around 8.30am we arrived at Blue Lagoon and its name is not far fetched since the clear blue water makes perfect conditions to explore its colorful underwater world. We were the only early birds at the beach, sharing the white sand with some curious monkeys. Although the water was still pretty cold we jumped right into it, equipped with our snorkeling gear, so that we could enjoy the empty sea before other ocean lovers would make their way to this popular spot.

And it was really great down there, small and bigger fish were showing us their vibrant colors, the corals amazed us with their wild shapes. I have to admit, we are quite some snorkeling newbies and you might just show us some purple algae and we would love it, but I believe this spot is also worth a try if you already have had the pleasure of more exceptional snorkeling environments.

After a few rounds in the water, we grabbed our stuff and moved on to our next destination, since this narrow beach is probably not the best place for relaxing when the tide is coming in. Apart from that, there was quite an amount of plastic waste on the small beach stretch, washed ashore by the gentle waves. But White Sand Beach should prove to be a better place for enjoying the warmth of the midday sun.

As bright and shiny as promised - White Sand Beach

Yes, the sand is really almost white and super soft - it proved to be just the perfect spot for a short power nap. This beach was also sparely occupied and offers you enough space to lay in the sun in the shape of a sea star and warm your skin by the bright sun. The waves are a little bigger here and hence the snorkling is not good at all. But getting crushed by the waves and let yourself be shaken up can also be so much fun. If you prefer the dry land, listening to the powerful ocean is so relaxing and almost like music in my ears. Real music is more your thing? A few locals were adding some extra island vibes to the atmosphere by playing wood drums and singing along, just because they were in the mood for it.

Always stop for waterfalls and durian

On our way back home, we made a long lunch break at one of the colorful fruit stalls to refuel us with watermelon, mangosteen, papaya, mango, snake fruit and not to forget some rich and creamy durian. Although it was definitely no durian season in Bali, it tasted so good and we paid only about 30IDR for a proper size.

We were already a bit exhausted in the afternoon, but still didn't want to miss the next destination on that day's roadtrip list. We took a little detour to a nearby waterfall, which proved to be nice but not exceptional in any way. But what did draw my attention was the magical colors of the rice field on the way (see first picture) - this is the beauty that makes so many people fall in love with this tropical island!

Bali truly has it all - stunning landscape, beautiful bright beaches, great waterfalls and a lot of delicious fruits. I will soon share some more of my stories from Bali to inspire you to go on your own adventure journey should you ever stumble across this island paradise in Indonesia!
