I will aim to provide this report on a weekly basis, with a look at the previous weeks data and more historical data to compare and contrast.

This will allow contributors and employees of utopian.io to keep in touch with how the platform is progressing with regards to approval percentages and number of Contribution Types being submitted.

Assumptions

In this report, 'Approved' contributions have been voted on by @utopian-io.

'Rejected' contributions have not received a vote from @utopian-io.

1. Contributions Summary

For the week, 19th - 25th January 2018 inclusive, the SteemSQL DataBase holds a total of 4491 potential contributions to utopian-io. This is a 28% increase on the previous weeks' total which was 3511.

status.png

2774 of these contributions have been approved, over 600 MORE contributions than the previous weeks' total of 2110.

The approval percentage of 62% is up 2% from last week which is good to see on top of the 8% rise previously, especially as there were more than 600 more contributions this week.

The Contributions offered can be any one of the following types:

This weeks data, split into Contribution types is shown in the pie chart below:

allconts.png

This week, the 'Translations' category still holds the largest percentage of contributions at 43%. 'Ideas' keeps 2nd place, with 'Tutorials' still in 3rd.

2 Contributions by Type

In this section we take a look a few of the individual contribution types of interest.

A full list of contribution types is listed further below with associated figures and analysis.

Ideas - Approvals / Rejections

The 'Ideas' or, 'Suggestions' category has recently seen a good level of growth, which can be seen by looking at the previous months set of data.

image.png

The growth has certainly been there with regards to the number of submissions for this category, but as we can see from the following table, little has changed in terms of approval rate.

_Jan WK 1Jan WK 2Jan WK 3Jan WK 4
Total394520600937
Approved192219291498
Approval %49424953

For the previous 4 weeks of data we have seen a steady rise in the number of submissions, and although only small, there is a slight increase in the approval rate this week, over the previous 3 weeks.

It is difficult to state what is the reason behind this growth in 'Ideas'. Other categories have not shown any major gains or losses in contribution totals and so we cannot say this is the reason.

Anyway, growth in any category is good to see, and perhaps utopian-io is seeing a new wave of applications and keen minds willing to suggest improvements to what is available.

3. All contribution types

The following table shows all types and totals of contributions submitted, with their approval % in the end column.

'Development' fared best of the busier contribution categories, and this week succeeded in achieving a success rate better than 4 in 5 contributions. Although utopian-io isn't just a platform for 'developers', this figure is good to see.

The 'Social' category also scored highly this week with 11 out of 12 contributions approved - a success rate of 92%. Previously, the 'Social' category failed to score an approval rate better than 1 in 4 contributions.

Of the more popular submission categories, 'Blogs' continues to perform badly. Although this category does not require technical skill as such, the acceptance rate remains firmly below 50%.

Last week, there were 56 Blog contributions with 13 approvals, the contribution total is up to 82 this week and so despite the low acceptance rate, this category seems to be attracting attention.

4. Summary Analysis

As the weeks' pass and the data collected expands, it is possible to learn more about the developing trends in the utopian-io ecosystem.

Last week, and for the first week in the history of the project, the number of contributions fell.

However this week, normal service has been resumed and the contributions for the 7 days show the 3rd highest total since the project began.

As
Previously I wrote:

Looking at the data, I suggest that we may be nearing a maximum total of contributions each week of around 5000, perhaps with around 55-60% of these contributions receiving approval.

As the approval % reached 62% this week and total contributions reached 4491, I'm fairly happy with this assessment.

Summary

As a utopian-io contributor, I am happy to see the number of contributions and accepted contributions rise again this week after a subdued week previously.

I still think that the total number of contributions is unlikely to rise above 5000 in the near future, and believe that a 55-65% approval rate will be the average over the coming months.

Congratulations to all contributors and moderators for a successful week at utopian-io!

5. Tools used to gather this data and compile report

The data is sourced from SteemSQL - A publicly available SQL database with all the blockchain data held within (Data is normally 1/2 hours delayed from live)

The SQL queries to extra to the data have been produced in both SQL Server Personal Edition and LINQPAD 5. Some of the code used for these results can be found in an earlier contribution.

The charts used to present the data were produced using MS Excel.

This data was compiled on the 1st February 2018 at 5:00 pm (UCT+4)

I am part of a Steemit Business Intelligence community. We all post under the tag #blockchainbi. If you have analysis you would like to be carried out on utopian-io/Steem data, please do contact me or any of the #blockchainbi team and we will do our best to help you.
