Hello everyone.
I am going to be doing Bible study series as from now on and I will be picking a Book in the Bible randomly and treat it chapter by chapter. I hope you will enjoy it. And to begin with, I have chosen the Book of Daniel to treat first. Please feel free to ask question and contribute to the study.
The Introduction To The Book Of Daniel.
Daniel, whose name means "God is (my) judge," is both the main character and the author of the book that bears his name. The book records events ranging from the first invasion of Jerusalem by Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar to the third year of Persian king Cyrus.
Chronologically, Daniel is is one of the last Old Testament prophets. Only Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi come after him in the sequence of prophets throughout Old testament history. Though they lived during the same time period, Daniel was younger than Jeremiah and probably the same age as Ezekiel.
The Purpose Of The Book
Daniel's writings and prophecies fulfilled two primary purposes:
(1) to reassure God's people who were in foreign captivity (as a result of their rebellion and God's judgement) that their present situation was not their final destiny and (2) to pass on to future generations the prophetic visions of God's sovereignty (i.e., ultimate power, authority and control) over nations and the final triumph of His kingdom in the earth. This twofold purpose is demonstrated throughout the book in the lives of Daniel and His three friends (Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego) and illustrated in Daniel's prophetic message and ministry. The book presents with bold assurance God's promise to preserve, protect and restore His covenant people (i.e., those he promised to develop into a great nation through whom He would reveal Himself and His plan to all nations). This promise was as certain as the coming Messiah's (i.e., Christ's) kingdom that will last forever.
I hope that we will all follow this book of Daniel as we go on to study the whole chapter bit by bit. May the lord give us the understanding to be able to assimilate His word. Amen.
Keep following so not to miss this study.
Thanks for reading,
God bless you.
Shalom.
