Finland! This crazy place on earth where vodka replaces water, sauna summer and the girls are so beutiful you get totally hooked. Yes! It is true. Finland is a nice place. If memory does not betray me I almost got married four times during the years I frequently visited. It might be an exaggeration, but what the fuck. We are going to exaggerate a bit here. AND we are going to take a break from drums, electric guitars and noisy amps. And bring forth the mighty cello. Apocalypyica is a typical finish thing. They do it with so much dedication, you just have to be impressed. Four guys meets at the Sibelius Academy and just "click" start to cover Metallica and various other classic heavy metal? Where does that happen? Yes, it happens in Finland. On, on, huvää, huvää, lets dive in.
Apocalyptica -Inquisition Symphony (1998)
The reasons for choosing this album instead of their first effort "Plays Metallica by four Cellos" are 2:
One: They cover two and a half of my favourite metallica songs. 2 from the "Ride the Lighning" album, namely "Fade to Black" and "For Whom the Bell tolls". And the second half of "One".
Two: The production is much improved from their first effort.
Except from that, I really enjoyed their first album better back in the days. But today, I prefere this.
You will also find covers of Sepultura, Faith No More and Pantera on this release, as well as their own material, which is really cool. "Harmageddon", "M.B" and "Toreador" proves they compose well, but as we all know, getting recognition as a unknown composer is almost unheard of.
