Part 2

They followed the guard forward instead of taking a turn down into the mine and soon arrived to a yet separate entry that had wheelbarrows instead of pickaxes as their last checkpoint. They grabbed one each and followed the guard down the same path, and then joined the miners – with the pickaxes – on their way down.

“Listen, save your Lyterite and position yourself so that you will be collecting the ore, okay?” Tom nodded in response. “We’ll meet at the train.” James then hurried forward to build some distance so they wouldn’t be one next to another inside the tunnels.

James’ hurry was to no avail as there were no other men with the wheelbarrows down in the first tunnel yet. They were instructed to go in first, one after the other. One would therefore collect the ore, and the other the useless rock.

Only a couple steps inside they could immediately tell it was one of those tunnels that had been used before. The stench of human excrements was unbearable even at the start, and they needed get to the tunnel’s very end. They wanted to hold on to their Lyterite, so they walked in the complete darkness, feeling their way deeper into the tunnel. Though they knew there was nobody there, the feeling certainly wasn’t anything near the one of being home alone.
