Colin Luther Powell (born April 5, 1937) is an American statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army. Powell was born in Harlem as the son of Jamaican immigrants. During his military career, Powell also served as National Security Advisor (1987–1989), as Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command (1989) and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989–1993), holding the latter position during the Persian Gulf War. Powell was the first, and so far the only, African American to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was the 65th United States Secretary of State, serving under U.S. President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, the first African American to serve in that position.

Ok, I gotta admit, this guy is not one of my favorite people.

However, whether we like someone or not we may still be able to learn from them.

There is one thing he was quoted saying that I have always liked.

"None of us can change our yesterdays,
but all of us can change our tomorrows.”

All too often we cling to the past.

Thinking about what might have been or how we wish things had been different.

Please understand something very powerful...

The thoughts of your past have created your current experiences...

and...

Your thoughts today are creating you future experiences.

Really think about that for a moment.

So if you are thinking today about things from your past then you are creating tomorrow what you are experiencing today.

In other words, thinking about the past all the time leaves you stagnant and not moving forward.

This means you are not growing, and if you are not growing then you are dying.

If those thoughts of the past are negative it is that much worse.

The past is over, learn from it and move on.

Create today a new and bright future for yourself.

The future is the one thing you do have absolute control over.

The future is not a guessing game, it is a compilation of your thoughts and actions today.

So don't let yesterday affect your thoughts and actions today.

Instead use your thoughts and actions today to create a brighter tomorrow!

Remember,

"None of us can change our yesterdays,
but all of us can change our tomorrows.”
