Crazy how time flies!

I am doing #promo-indonesia through my 30 Days of Indonesia series, showcasing traditional sweets/desserts/snacks that are known as jajan pasar, for 29/30 days. Why, you asked? Well apart that my name is thekitchenfairy, I blog mostly about food 😁, but it is also Ramadhan -fasting month, which the majority of Indonesia are doing it, since many of them are Moslems. So, when they break their fast (dusk time), they treat themselves with sweets, and each day I share different sample(s) of those sweets.
Today is Day 22!
It seems only the other week I started this series, but we are on Day 22 already!

Today I baked two pies, but the other one isn't Indonesian, and I will be posting for that one sometime tomorrow. Right now, I'd like to share you this famous pie from Bali (and also from Irian Jaya), milk pie that locally known as Pai Susu Bali or Kue Lontar of Irian Jaya.
It is similar to egg custard/egg tart, but obviously mine is veganized!
crust
- 1 c flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- a pinch of salt
- 94 g vegetable shortening (love the yellow one)
- 1/3 c nut milk
how to
- mix everything and knead
- roll flat and place it on pie plate, poke holes all over with fork
- preheat oven to 450 F
- bake for 9-10 mins
- let cool to room temp
filling
- 3/4 c nut milk
- 1 tbsp + 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 c coconut milk
- 1/4 c maple syrup
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
- a pinch of turmeric powder, optional
how to
- mix everything in a pot, bring to boil, stiring continuously until thicken
- take off from heat and pour into crust
- sprinkle top with grated nutmeg, if you wish
- chill to firm up

Suka pai susu?
Meski di Indonesia yang paling terkenal adalah Pai Susu dari Bali, ternyata Kue Lontar dari Irian Jaya tak jauh beda, sama-sama pai susu dan sama-sama enaknya.
Untuk hari ke 22 bulan Ramadhan ini (disini sudah malam ke 23), aku tadi bikin pai susu yang tentunya vegan (tanpa produk hewani), tak kalah enaknya dengan pai susu yang menggunakan telur 😉
Yuk dicoba
kulit
- 1 gelas terigu
- 1 sdm gula pasir
- sejumput garam
- 94 g mentega putih
- 1/3 gelas susu cair (misalnya kedelai, kacang mede, dll)
cara membuat
- campur seluruh bahan, terus digilas, taruh ke cetakan pai, tusuk2 dengan garpu
- panaskan oven 450 F, panggang kulit 9-10 menit, dinginan suhu ruangan
isi
- 3/4 gelas susu cair (lihat atas)
- 1/2 gelas santan
- 1 sdm + 2 sdt maizena
- 1/4 gelas sirup mapel (atau agave, sirup2 vegan pengganti madu)
- 1 1/2 sdt esens vanila
- sejumput kunir bubuk, kalau mau kekuningan hasilnya
cara membuat
- campurkan seluruhnya kedalam panci, aduk rata
- didihkan sambil terus diaduk, hingga mengental
- tuang pada kulit dan beri taburan pala bubuk, jika mau
- dinginkan di kulkas biar agak mengeras
