Coffee Time Meditation #33 -- Dec. 29th

“The greatest compliment that was ever paid to me was when one asked me what I thought, and attended to my answer.” — Henry David Thoreau

Thoughts on Today’s Quote

How do you feel when someone asks you what you think?

Once you get past the initial shock of being asked and collect your thoughts to express an opinion, feels pretty good, right?

Some people will give their opinions on a topic whether you want them or not. Sometimes they will go on at length with them. Their sense of self-importance is enough to drive a more modest person into a corner not wanting to be associated with the blow-hard.

If we all waited to be asked for an opinion, there would be a lot of valuable opinions and observations which would never be shared. Perspectives and insights lost to the world of thoughts instead of given voice.

So, those who offer their opinions judiciously and thoughtfully provide us with a great wealth of thoughts and ideas without being overwhelmed with a sense of self-importance.

Don’t discount the person who sits quietly minding their own thoughts. All too often, they are thinking but lack the confidence to believe their thoughts have value. Ask and then listen closely. You may hear wisdom you never thought possible.

About Coffee Time Meditation

I love being inspired by other people’s quotes. I thought I’d start sharing some quotes that inspire me along with my own thoughts the quote evokes within me. So, think of someone, like me, sitting quietly with the first fresh coffee of the day and mediating about the words of the quote. That would be me, or it could be you.

I invite you to share your own thoughts on the quote in the comments.
