Chapter 9
They laid down with the others to rest their weary bones. With their clothes all dirty, and showing visible signs of wear and tear, they looked like a group of homeless men. Some of them caught a quick nap, but Tom and James didn't even try and fall asleep. Their minds were firing and they could feel the tingling in their limbs due to the adrenaline rush. All they wanted – and needed – was some time to regain themselves to be as fresh as possible for their escape.
Whereas when they were mining it took ages for the wheelbarrows to fill up, it felt near instant that time around. They were the first ones on their feet and ready to go – not at all sluggish like the other workers. They got a couple of weird looks, but nobody seemed to care too much. They just wanted their shift to end and not get in trouble. The workers just wanted their rutine. The less that happened out of the ordinary, the better.
