Playing the Sims: Growing Children and Mushrooms

Legacy Challenge

Victoria, and Jack Steem are my Sim Girl legacy challenge Sims. If you are not familiar with the challenge you can find it at Sim Legacy Challenge. This challenge is to basically start your Sim out on a huge lot, with little to no money, and then play the household for 10 generations on this land. There are many stipulations, and rules for the challenge. You can find these rules by following the link.

Here is a snapshot of a typical day in the life of the Steem family. I am glad to find out that Josette can also go to the potty on her own! (This is important to Sim parents, and means, hopefully no more diapers!)

I also discovered that the toddlers can play in the flowers. They twirl around, and throw dirt; turning into a little dirt tornado. It was cute. I had to get the children out of the house for a little bit. I tried to get some cute pictures of them, but it takes some effort to get them to sit long enough to get a good one.

The bills finally arrive today. Jack and Angelica were outside working in the garden when the mailman stopped. It seemed as if we got more done between bills this time around.

The garden, which let’s face it, will become a farm, has provided them with the money to upgrade the house, and buy items for the house; pay for food etc.

Victoria has still not been able to start a painting. She is in the first trimester, of her third pregnancy, and has taken family leave from work. When she is on family leave, she gets paid for her scheduled work, while she is at home tending to her family. She also has 4 more days of vacation to use, if she is not in a good enough mood to go to work.

To meet all the needs of all the Steem family members, it takes both parent Sims. Babies are easy, because they do not move from the basinet. If you feed them a bottle, pay some attention to them, and change their diapers, they will stay in the green.

Toddlers have all sorts of emotional requirements, as well as basic needs. Food is the biggest need in this house.

A family dinner should feed everyone in the family. If Victoria and Jack need to make more food, they can do this, by selecting the party size meal from the options when cooking.

@snook also suggested that you can hire a cook, who will come to your house and cook many meals. Then you can move those meals to the refrigerator for later. Most meals will last a week in the refrigerator.

It also takes both Victoria, and Jack to get the work done in the garden. Even with both watering the garden, it takes a long time. I looked around for a faster way to water, but they no longer offer the sprinkler in the store.

From what I read, the higher the gardening skill, the faster the Sims will water. Every plant that is watered, increases the gardening skill. I also read that if you graft two plants into one, that you will then only have one plant to water.

I have not tried to graft plants yet, but Jack does have his gardening skills high enough to be able to graft the plants. I hope that soon, I will be able to explain the grafting process.

Having walls and a door on the twins’ bedroom help them sleep with a new baby in the home. When Sims are sleeping, they will be awakened by any type of loud noise. If they are all sleeping in the same room, and the baby cries, the crying will wake everyone in that room.

By separating the twins from the baby, they will sleep through the crying. Victoria, and Jack will be awakened, because the room they sleep is not closed off.

You can separate rooms by noises, by placing anything noisy in a central room, like a living room. Your Sims will sleep through most noises, if they have their own bedroom, with walls and a door.

Victoria finally found some time in the evening to start a small painting. She acquired the painting skill which will allow her to create beautiful canvas artwork. By seeing what @snook has done in her legacy challenge, I know painting is a good way to make money, if you spend enough time practicing.

Victoria and Jack rolled the random toddler trait generator and got angelic for Joy’s main trait. I am relieved. There are a few of the toddler traits I have not played yet, such as the clingy, or the inquisitive, but I am glad that the middle child will be the easiest to take care of in this family.

You can go to the Sims legacy challenge to find the toddler random trait generator. There are few choices for the toddler, so it is generated randomly. When the Sim children grow into the child/kid stage, the random trait generator, uses the traits of the parents to choose the random trait.

I also had a chance to change the spelling of Josette’s name.

If you ever need to change a Sim’s name, or any trait, you can choose one of your Sims, click on the mirror, and select change Sim from the options. When you do this, you will be taken to the create a Sim for the family. You can then change any aspect of the Sims in the family, such as the spelling of the name.

One of the downfalls of having a birthday, is that the cake gives the toddlers a sugar high. With that sugar high, comes the low! They will be very energized during the sugar rush, and then demand more sugar after.

This negative sugar now! buff lasts two hours, and will affect the toddler’s mood. When the baby grows up to be toddler age, they will be hungry, so unless you have something for them to eat other than cake, you will encounter this sugar buff.

One of the nice things about moving the baby from a bassinet to the bed, is that the bassinet can be sold for $150, and the beds cost $160, so you don’t have to spend much to upgrade the bed.

I hope you have learned a little more about playing the Sims 4. Most of the time playing a family consists on meeting the needs of the family, making sure the bills get paid, and everyone gets a bath. Since this is a legacy challenge, I am building a big family, so that there will be more opportunities to build the home when the children get older.

Until next time,

Happy Gaming- Sim Girl
