Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862) was an American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, and historian. A leading transcendentalist, Thoreau is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay "Civil Disobedience" (originally published as "Resistance to Civil Government"), an argument for disobedience to an unjust state.
I love this quote from him.
"We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal
and then leap in the dark to our success."
and then leap in the dark to our success."
So, we only know part of the journey we are on at all times.
The part right in front of us.
Maybe you have heard this analogy and maybe you haven't.
It's like driving a car at night.

You can only see ahead of you a hundred feet or so at all times.
As you get closer you still only see that distance in front of you.
You have to trust that there is more road beyond what you can see.
I've also heard it said, "Go as far as you can see and when you get there you will see further.".
Normally the path is clear, but sometimes when you get as far as you can see the path is not really that clear.

When it is not you have to take a leap of faith.
Your path has taken you this far and you know where you are ultimately going.
Sometimes the next step in the path seems a little far away and you just have to jump.
Trusting that, since you are headed toward your goal, that there will be solid ground to land on.
You've really got to be willing to just leap right in, knowing that since you have been steadfast, it will be rewarding.

When we are at these points in life there is always an impulse.
It's up to us to act on it.
So don't worry about what's around the corner or up ahead so much.
If you are following your path then trust that what is up ahead will further your journey so you can put your focus in what's happening now.
If you do get to a point that you aren't sure how to cross, trust your gut and jump!
Remember,
"We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal
and then leap in the dark to our success."
and then leap in the dark to our success."
