Chapter 9
They kept on watching over their shoulders until the last of the workers walked his way back down into the mine. They somewhat relieved themselves when they've learned they've done it and then only needed to wait for the train to fill up with the ore and leave the station. Seconds felt like minutes and minutes like hours when they were waiting for a new group of workers to come dump the ore. It felt as if an entire year had passed before a new group showed up.
The position they were in was far from comfortable, and because they couldn't move much, their limbs slowly began to first ache, and then fall asleep. They stayed put throughout the entire time, and it was with the last of the workers of the next group that they heard some of the guards shouting nearby. One of the guards even passed right by them, missing them because of pure luck. They couldn't quite make what was going on, but there were many different voices – all coming from the direction of the ramp.
Tom and James soon realized that the guards were to move the ramp to the next wagon. Judging by their shouts they also managed to make out that they were moving it past them. They needed to move. Fast.
