Part 16

They rolled over to their backs, placed their hands behind their heads and just enjoyed themselves. The weather was fine, not too hot and nearly cloudless – the few clouds that were there looked like scoops of icecream – and combined with the soft breeze moving the grass the atmosphere was nothing short of magical.

When the first group of workers showed up and they started dumping the ore, both of them fell asleep. The monotonous sound of the falling ore was much like that of rain that lulled to sleep even the greatest of men.

Next thing they remember is waking up by the sound of the steem engine's exhaust valve going off. There was no time for them to rub their eyes as the train was already moving slowly. They looked around to make sure there was nobody there, and the other train was gone already and there were no guards on their side. They jumped on the feet and started running after the train they were to board. Tom made it onto the train first and then helped James get on board too. Both out of breath, they smiled at each other. They have made it to the train and were on their way to find out more about the ore.
